The old saying “don’t arrive with two arms the same length” is never more true than when you visit a friend or family member that have just welcomed a new baby into their home! Here is a short list of simple gestures and ‘gifts’ that you can bring along that will be much more helpful to the new parents than anything else:
Fresh Flowers
If you’re planning a visit after the initial first few weeks then chances are things have calmed down in the new parent’s home and deflated ‘New Baby’ balloons and sad looking flowers may start to appear. Keep that new Mama blossoming with fresh beautiful flowers and she will smile each time, thinking of you ; )
Supermarket delivery voucher
This will seem like an unusual gift but it will also force the new Mum or Dad to take advantage of the amazing invention that is online supermarket shopping!! Your very voucher may even introduce them to how easy it can be stock up their kitchen cupboards with just a touch of a button all while baby is asleep in their arms – winners all round!
Ask how you can help
Ask the new parents is there anyway you can help. Not just in the first two weeks, where everything is exciting and new and everyone wants to help, but in the adjustment period afterwards. Give them a call the day before you plan to visit and see if they need anything, then a few hours before you show up, send a text – they may have forgotten something!
